Advanced Manufacturing Careers in NH

Careers In NH With No Degree Needed

New Hampshire is home to some specialized high-tech manufacturing companies who are making highly-technical parts for the world's leading automotive, aerospace and defense companies and offer great careers in NH. These companies require a skilled labor force, which companies like Hitchiner Manufacturing are working to develop. Through a variety of training programs, Hitchiner Manufacturing can offer promising careers in NH without a college degree.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for full-time workers over 25 with a high school diploma is roughly $37,000. However, high school graduates who complete good job training programs can soon make up to twice that in the specialized and high-tech manufacturing industries.

At Hitchiner Manufacturing, we are helping high school students launch their careers in NH with a training program created in collaboration with the Manchester nonprofit MY TURN and Nashua Community College. Earlier this year, nine students completed the program and all nine were offered entry-level positions working in the wax injection, shell building, foundry and post-cast departments at our Milford campus.

About the Program

The four-week program, held at Hitchiner Manufacturing's headquarters in Milford, focused on the basic skills these high school students would need upon graduation to secure an entry-level manufacturing position. The training program also introduced "soft-skills" that give students the extra edge when seeking a career in NH. Each day, students were broken into two groups for two sessions, one focused on classroom learning, while the other received hands-on training. Mid-day, the students learning in the classroom would head off to hands-on training and vice-versa.

In the classroom, students were learning technical skills, like blueprint reading and shop math as well as life skills, such as financial literacy, resume writing, and communication skills. The sessions were taught by Hitchiner’s experienced trainers and included guest speakers.

Opportunities for Careers in NH

Hitchiner Manufacturing is not the only company working to develop New Hampshire's workforce. The state has also recognized that the thriving manufacturing industry is in need of hundreds of new workers in the years to come. The Community College System of New Hampshire is collaborating with the manufacturing community on a number of initiatives to create training programs that target these needs as part of a $20 million Department of Labor grant.

There is often a misconception that manufacturing jobs are boring, repetitive and require little to no skill to get started. At a company like Hitchiner Manufacturing, where we manufacture complete-to-print, high-volume, complex thin-wall investment castings and other components to the automotive and aerospace industries, even entry-level jobs require computer proficiency, science and math skills, and other technical skills.

The students who have completed our high school training program speak highly of the program and the useful information it provides. While many students leave high school wondering, "what's next?" these students said they felt they had learned key skills and information to prepare them for a career in NH.

Working for a company like Hitchiner Manufacturing promises not only a good job but a long-term career with room for growth to workers with a high school diploma. As a Hitchiner employee, you can take pride in being part of a company that produces the parts used by world-class companies like BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, General Electric and Lockheed. In July of 2018, the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported that manufacturing jobs are growing at the fastest rate in twenty-three years.
