What Does Hitchiner Manufacturing Do and Are We Hiring?

What Does Hitchiner Manufacturing Do?

Hitchiner Produces High-Quality Investment Ferrous Castings

We supply companies Like BMW, General Electric, and Lockheed

Hitchiner Manufacturing has been part of the New Hampshire business community for more than 75 years, yet we occasionally run into people who don't know what we do. Hitchiner is a manufacturing company that supplies complete-to-print, high-volume, complex thin-wall investment castings and fully-finished casting-based subassemblies and components to various industries. In other words, we are a high-tech manufacturing firm that provides specialized parts to the automotive, aerospace, defense and other industries around the globe.

Hitchiner is also an innovator in the manufacturing industry. Our exclusive countergravity casting techniques, which we developed in the 1970s, are considered one of the most significant advancements in casting technology.

Last year, Hitchiner announced it will be expanding its Milford campus, where the company is headquartered, and as part of that expansion will be hiring a variety of positions. If you are interested in working at Hitchiner, or simply wonder what we do, here's an overview.

The Hitchiner Process

Casting is a method of building a customized part by building a mold and then pouring liquid material into the mold to harden into the desired part shape. First wax replicas of a casting (or metal part) are created by a process called injection molding. These replicas are then assembled into clusters so that numerous parts can be made at once. The wax replicas are then dipped into a ceramic slurry that hardens. The wax is melted away and what's left is a ceramic mold we can now use to cast the part.

Typically in the casting process, molten metal is poured into a mold, however, Hitchiner developed a countergravity casting technique that produces a superior part. By creating a vacuum, the molten metal is drawn up into the mold. Once it begins to solidify the vacuum is released, which also releases the excess molten material back into the crucible for a more efficient process. Once the metal has fully cooled, the ceramic is knocked away by vibration, blasting or tumbling. Unlike traditional investment casting, only a small metal stub remains, which is removed by an automated grinding operation. Once minor finishing is complete, we have a completed part ready to ship to our customers.
