What is The Southern NH Lifestyle Like?

For those of us who live in Southern NH, we like to say we have it all -- access to the ocean, the mountains, the lakes, great metropolitan areas like Boston, and beautiful, varied seasons.

There are many long-term career opportunities available today in New Hampshire, and we've seen growth in people moving to our beautiful state. Once people get here, they find that New Hampshire is not only a great place to work, but also to live and play. While we may be a bit biased, we certainly believe the Southern NH lifestyle has plenty for everyone to enjoy!

As we look to the future and see the need to fill those jobs, Hitchiner Manufacturing has developed training and internship programs to help those looking to live and work in New Hampshire experience long-term career success. If you are thinking about relocating to New Hampshire, let us share with you a few of our favorite things about our home state.

The Great Outdoors – Hiking, Biking, Skiing and More

New Hampshire is a spectacular place for hiking. There are over 4,000 miles of trails in the state, including roughly 160 miles of the Appalachian Trail. There’s a way for nearly everyone to enjoy the serenity and scenery of nature from the flat and family-friendly rail trails popular in Southern NH towns like Derry and Goffstown to conquering the Presidential peaks. For water lovers, there are many opportunities for kayaking, white water rafting, and canoeing, too.

In the winter, go ahead and hit the slopes! New Hampshire is famous for its skiing and snowboarding trails. Did you know America’s most accomplished alpine skier, Bode Miller, grew up on our mountains? New Hampshire also has the largest network of cross-country ski trails in the East. We love snow here, so we also have fun activities like snowmobiling, snow-tubing, and dog-sledding.

Our mountains are no more than an hours drive from most points in Southern NH, making these activities very accessible, even with a little snow on the roads.

Family Fun in NH

New Hampshire is rich in history and we've worked hard to weave it into our daily lives. Historical attractions for kids in Southern NH, including the Robert Frost Farm in Derry and the Winnipesaukee Historical Railroad. During the holidays, children can have a Polar Express-style experience with the Journey to the North Pole, riding a refurbished historical train in their pajamas to visit Santa Claus!

We also have tons of amusement parks, water parks and other attractions to keep young and old entertained year round. Canobie Lake Park in Salem is a summer must, though only the bravest may want to tackle roller coasters like Untamed and the Canobie Corkscrew. Or travel up to the lakes region to visit Fun Spot, the Guinness World record-holding largest arcade in the world – and for 80s-loving parents, they have all the classics, including Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, and Tapper.

A Taste of the Good Life - Food & Drink in Southern NH

New Hampshire is quite famous for its craft breweries. According to Brew NH, there are at least 20 craft breweries in southern NH alone! You can check out the rotating selection at White Birch Brewing in Nashua which often includes special seasonal beverages. Pair with a variety of down-home sides like fried pickles and corn fritters, and go on a Saturday night if you want to hear live music. For the adventurers, consider downloading a NH Beer Passport from Brew NH and start collecting stamps from all the different breweries!

For a unique experience, visit Moonlight Meadery in Londonderry. Moonlight Meadery is an award-winning mead (honey wine) and cider producer which offers tours and tastings Monday-Saturday, with over 45 different meads available to sample.

The culinary scene in New Hampshire largely matches the drink scene, with a focus on upscale, seasonal, local pub food. If that’s not your jam, southern NH offers many other great options, from the brick-oven pizza at Bedford’s 1750 Taphouse to the authentic Mexican of Nashua’s Agave Azul.

Southern NH provides diverse recreational opportunities for anyone looking to move to live, work and play.
